Jeff and I had our inspection yesterday. Everything went very well. The house is structurally in great shape...just a few little kinks that need to be worked out. The house needs a new roof, which we already knew. The biggest surprise was there is a little moisture in the basement, so all existing drywall, carpet, etc. needs to be ripped out. No biggie. We were planning on finishing the basement in the next year or so. I am excited that we get to start from scratch. There is no task too big for my man! I am very lucky that Jeff is so handy.

So, on our agenda for the next two months...

1. New Roof
2. Demo basement
3. Refinish floors
4. New paint/trim
5. New blinds / light fixtures / outlet covers
8. Update bathroom with new sink/tile/paint
9. Kitchen - new cupboards, countertops, floor, etc.
10. By fall, we hope to refinish the upstairs. New paint, trim, add a closet, and carpet.

Can't wait to get to work and build some sweat equity! And, yes I will be helping quite a bit. I was ripping out trim and scraping wallpaper at 9 months pregnant...I think I can handle these projects no prob.

We have been saving for a VERY long time! Haha, it will be nice to see that living in a one bedroom apt with TWO roommates has paid off =)

It will be interesting to see how fast we can blow the $8k from the govt. I bet ya we can spend it in one hour remodeling a kitchen. Too bad the state ended up not getting on the tax credit bandwagon.

yeah I know! Maybe the state will come around for us!! Here is a money saving tip for you too. (maybe for oyur other blog!!) Use a credit card with a great points system, Pay purchases off right away with your cash. that way you can either get cash back from your purchases or turn your points into home improvement give cards from lowes or home depot--AND not be in any type of credit debt. It's what I do :)

I will DEFINETELY post that on my other blog =) Jeff and I use a BP Visa right now for all gas/groceries and pay it off each month. We earn 5% cash back at all BP stations and I think 3% on groceries or something. We make around $50 every two months...so $300/year. Not bad! What card do you use? I heard there is a Lowe's one?

Check with your bank and see what they offer otherwise I use my national city diamond edition card

https://www.nationalcity.com/personal-banking/products-services/everyday-banking/pages/credit-cards.asp

It's a points card PLUS a percentage of all my purchases are donated to breast cancer research. It looks the same as their points visa but it's pink!! :) Pretty sure anyone can join too! I just looked at the bonus program last night again and I know there were things like target gift cards, lowes, plus tons of other good stuff!

I'm getting ready to roll up my sleeves! But, Dad and Jeff told me last night I had to "Stay Out of the Basement!". Ok, Ok, I'll wait for the other areas to pitch in. But I am more than ready!

I have to say I disagree with the credit card. Even if you're getting kick backs, you'll always spend less if you budget and go with cash in hand. Also, you have a chance of negotiating for furniture, appliances, etc when you have a wad of cash in hand.

Angie, please teach me the art of negotiation. I'm not good at it and i will need the skills in the near future!! With my credit card, it takes being very disciplined, yes I agree. you just can't allow yourself to spend more than you have. It's hard but you just gotta do it. I do agree though you can't bargain with plastic!
